I an making a lightning mcqueen cake for my nephew's birthday, I had just made a spiderman cake for another little boy, but I couldn't achieve the briliant RED color, it was more of a dark pink. How do you get that deep red color? I'm baffled!

Americolor Super Red ... that's the answer! I switched from Wilton to Americolor about 8 months ago, and I am so glad I did it! You don't have to add nearly as much coloring, and you get the most brilliant red icing!!! thumbs_up.gif

...yeah, either that or powdered food color...it works pretty well....and letting it sit for a while....the longer it sits, the more it absorbs the color thumbs_up.gif

Here's another vote for Americolor Super Red - I love it. Any of the red on the cakes in my gallery was Americlor Super Red - used on plain ole' white BC. It works GREAT!!

Is this a brand that can only be purchased online or can you find it in a store?

I use only Wilton colors and had the very same problem with the red not being red enough.
I called my instructor and she said that sometimes it takes 24 hrs to darken up completely. So, I iced the cake and the next morning it was perfect!
But now after hearing about Americolor I'd like to find out where I can purchase it.

Right here on CC! I hear they even have good shipping rates to Canada.

My local cake decorating supply store happens to carry it, as well as a few other stores around where I live. You don't need to use very much to get a true "red" (or even black using Americolor Super Black). Even when you first add some, your icing turns sort of a light red (if that makes sense) instead of pink.

If you can't find it locally, you can definitely order online.
