Hello, I am pretty new here. i joined a while back and didint post anything cause I just looked at pictures. I was an very active member of anohter forum but sadly there is alot of odd things happening there so i have left. I am doing my biggest cake ever on June 10th eeek! Any suggestions, I ll take em! Hello to all!
Sorry, don't have any suggestions for you, just wanted to welcome you to our addiction!! You'll LOVE it here!! ![]()
Thank you for the warm welcome. I really need a new place to call "HOME". As for suggestions, at this point I should know what i am doing anyways, heehee! June 10th is SOON!
VERY soon!!
What kind of cake is it? What's it gonna look like? I've never done a BIG cake, but from what I've read here....make sure you DOWEL it WELL!! That get talked about in the "Cake Disaster" area! ![]()
PS: Make sure you post your pictures!! I would love to see them!
Just a round tierd cake. 14 inch base, a 10 and them a 6 on top. There will be 2 smaller tiered cakes on each side, they are a 12 and an 8 tiered respectivley. i am using the half basket weave with light blue flowers. I got the /2 basket weave idea here a while back. Memmber dvass posted a really pretty cake and I decided I would do that 1/2 basket weave that she did. I am both excited and nervous. I practiced the design on an 8inchthat i was going to bring in to workl to share and show off, but I came upstairs from the basement with the laundry to see Kitty on the counter, helping herself to buttercream!!!!! Do you do wedding cakes?
Oh heavens no!! I can barely do birthday cakes!! LOL ![]()
Is it dvass' pink and white valentines cake? I LOVE that, she did a wonderful job on it! I also really like her Wilton course III cake, man do I wish I could do that! I love coming to this site and looking at all the cakes and reading how they made them, I guess I'm living vicariously through everyone here! One of these days, I'll be back on my feet and actually able to afford to buy the ingredients to make cakes, let alone all the "toys" I want to get to be able to decorate! ![]()
Make sure you post pictures of your cake when you get it done!!
Oh yes, I sure do plan on posting pics for sure! I jsut got a new computer though so I still have to figure out how to load pics. I am doing a graduation cake the next week, and I have a baby shower in July, so I would like to build up a pics folder of my own here and get opinions on what i can do better. The cake i mentioned by Dvss is under Round wedding cakes, and it is titled "My first wedding cake" (OMG for a first it is INCREDIBLE)! Check it out if you get a second. The half basket weave is incredible. I tried it on my test cake and i can do it! Kitty approved of it! I am using a different structure though, not so tiered. You will see when I post. THis is better than old fourm in that I can post pics! NEAT!
Just want to say hello and welcome since I started with CC I have to get my fix everyday. If you need help just ask away love to help if I can.
Sharon

Kimberly
Thank you for the warm welcome and extending you advice and help. I cant wait to see how my cacke turns out! And yes, forum and entire site is quite habit forming..."Daily fix", i guess!
Welcome. The only advice I have is put your top layer of your 14 inch round in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Then it will make it easier to get onto the bottom layer.
If you are using fillings make sure you use a good dam. I pipe mine with no tip in a couplered bag. I make sure it is thick enough and use your stiff buttercream for this.
Other than that you should be fine.
Welcome to our addiction ![]()
Good luck on your cake ![]()
