I am looking for pictured of the two layer square cakes where one-fourth is cut from the top layer and then placed on top of the second layer to create a third layer and it looks like steps. Am I making any sense to anyone?

I would love to hear the tips to making one and see any that have been made. I have seen them done for graduation last year and wanted to show one to a friend for her daughter's graduation.

Thank you!!

I'm not sure if this is what you're talking about, but I did a search for "slice of cake" and came with the following results. Perhaps you can PM one of the creators for tips:

Thank you archanac, but this is just a little different than the cake slice. It maybe the same concept though. Thank you for looking for me.

I was looking at some cakes and came across this one and made me wonder if this is what you might have been talking about. This particular cake is multi-layered, but there are sections of it where one "layer" is like three-stepped layers.

You will have to click on the No. 140a (Chocolate Fantasia) picture to get a better zoomed-in view of the cake that I am referencing.

Here's one from Kathy Finholdt, who has made this design legendary: http://www.kathyskakesllc.com/graduationcake005.html

I really like this how this cake looks...Now how do you go about making it? I'm thinking that you would bake 2 layers and cut out 1/4(but only 1 layer) of it and stack it on another part of the cake (to make the highest point)..Is that correct?

That is my understanding, but I wanted someone to verify it and let me in on any hints/tips to icing and such.
