I am about to make my first gift box cake and I would like to make the quilted design on it. I do not have the quilted mat impression yet so I would like to know are there any other ways of getting the quilted design on fondant without having the quilted mat impression.

Thanks,
Cynita

You can use your pizza roll cutter if you have one to do this.

I did a quilted design with a knife and a ruler, and let me tell you, it's not easy. There is actually quite a bit of geometry involved if you hope to get all of the pattern equal. Mine got skewed toward the end and it had a messy look. I would recommend trying to get a mat, or some other type of template, to follow.
