How do I get my fondant covered cake to have that wet shinny look without using luster dust? Saw something of TV looked like they were using steam.

I know that when I get the tiniest bit of water on my fondant it because glistening... it wasn't the look I was going for but it is there. You could try that - but remember that the wetness will melt the sugar so you don't want to use too much. Maybe vodka would work?? I am not sure!!

You can also lightly coat it with Crisco, just put a small dab on a paper towel and rub it in a circular motion all over the surface of the cake. Personally I like the matte look to fondant.

If you are talking about a wet/shiny, like patent leather, look, then a steamer is exactly what you use. You can get a small travel steamer for under $10 at Linens & Things or Bed, Bath & Beyond.

I try to steer clear of water on fondant, had a bad expeience with it. I'm with Shirley on this one definitely use the crisco. It gives a great shine to it without adding any moisture to the fondant. Besides what else can you do with 0 trans fat crisco !?!

I use my (really clean) warm hands and gently rubbing over and over in a circular motion. Then warmth from your hands makes it shine.

I, too, use my hand to get the shine. If I want the matte finish I use a dusting puff on it.
