We bought our dummys from a cake store & some online. We greesed the teirs with crisco, covered in fondant and used bc between each teir. The crisco seems to help the fondant stick and no rip so much. Then you can do details in royal or bc.

order from www.dallas-foam.com. best prices.

I use buttercream only. I don't grease the dummies nor do I wrap them in saran. When I'mready to change the design, I just run a knife under the hardened icing and it pops right off. wipe off with a damp rag and it's ready to go.

I had one set up for 10 months and it look great the whole time.

I use styrofoam and lightly mist them with water in a spray bottle, then cover in fondant. The fondant goes on nicely and so far I haven't seen any sign of mold or mildew so I think just that little mist of water is enough. On the Russian cake for the cake show I did a double layer of fondant because I wanted the cake to look as perfect as possible, for a regular cake dummy for a showroom you could get away with just one layer rolled thicker, at least 1/4".

thanks so much for all the advise and for the website indydebi - those are great prices. One question, when you kept your BC dummy cake for 10 months - where did you store it so that it?

It sat on a table in the corner as a display cake. Every bride that walked in during those 10 months checked it out.
