I have just gotten my first wedding cake order. It's a fairly simple cake (decor wise) but I have a few questions!! It is for this weekend so I am crazy trying to get prepared for making it!!
1. I need enough for 50 people - Will a 12" and 8" (each double layer) be enough. I am also doing a 6" topper cake for the Bride and Groom?
2. I have a 16' cake board to put this on, how do I attach the cardboard circle from the bottom layer to the cake board? I was told you needed to put a cardboard bake board between the bottom layer and the wooden cake board?
3. The customer is picking up the cake on Friday night, I have a large box to put it in and I plan on putting dowels in the bottom and middle layers for support...will this be enough?? I'm a little nervous??
Thanks so much for any advice and help!!!
1. Check at www.earlenescakes.com for serving charts for your cakes--I don't have the amounts right handy or I'd tell you. Also Wiltons might have their charts on their site.
2. Put some icing on the 16" cake board to act as "glue" for the round that the 12" cake will be on, to keep it from slipping.
3. Dowels in both lower layers will be fine, just make sure they're cut equally so the cake sits level above.
You'll be fine...go for it.
