OK, I went to the local supply store (not alot, please keep in mind) to look for gold dust. I found CK Products Gold Sparkle Dust. Just a reminder, I am doing a graduation cake and doing a frozen bc transfer of her graduation announcement. The colors are forest green (not a problem), white and gold. I did my practice transfer and did not like the yellow/gold color that I came up with. This is where the suggestion for gold dust came into play earlier today.

When I asked about using the product in bc icing and explained the look that I am trying for, he told me that I should not use this unless I painted it on using vodka and a paint brush.

Did I misunderstand? I thought it was posted that I can actually mix the god dust into the bc.

Please help!!!

Thanks - Lisa

You can mix the dust in with the BC. It just takes alot to get it really gold.

If you're just outlining, it shouldn't be bad. If I remember correctly, the dust is sweet so it doesn't change the taste much.

I really don't think it will get shiny gold by mixing it into you BC. The BC will just dull it. The gold luster dusts also have no taste at all. What the store told you is good advice. Painting it on is the best way. Someone on the other thread recommended that you mix the dust into piping gel and coat your bag with it before putting in the BC and piping. This might work better than just mixing it into you BC but I've never done it and I think it woult take too much dust to get the piping gel gold.

I would either cut the letters from fondant, candy clay or pipe them using royal and paint them (you can mix with lemon juice, vanilla, pga or vodka) or mold them from candy melts and dry brush them.
