I have noticed that if I over beat my shortening my buttercream is shiny.

Kakedecorator, Do you mean beat it before you add the ps? I do that to soften it up. I was wondering if it may be the difference in ingredients??

Yes, I always mix my shortening and liquids before I add the powdered sugar. Sometimes I walk away from my mixer and to do something else and before I know it I have over beat it. When I add the powdered sugar and finish mixing it in I end up with a shiny buttercream and no amount of more powdered sugar changes it. I don't like it shiny.
