I am going to be making my Wilton II class cake next week and wondered if anyone could give me tips on how they have done with the basketweave and any tricks they have learned. Also, how do you keep your vertical and horizontal lines straight? Thanks!

I found when you did the basketweave flat on the table the first time was hard to figure out but when I did it on the cake side was soooo much easier. If you make sure your first lines are straight and keep it tight it should stay straight. Practice with your practice board on the upright position. It isn't that hard to do.

I use the metal sewing guage thing to mark the top and bottom of where each line should be on the cake - that way there is not any leaning of them. It is very straight - and just about the perfect height for a cake!

Ditto!!! and if I may add--be patient with yourself. I'll come.

I like to imprint my vertical lines lightly and then pipe over them. The horizontal ones are much easier to keep straight.

Thank you all so much. I love the sewing gauge idea! This would help me make that "light" imprint on the cake. Also, I hadn't thought to set my practice board up on the stand! What super insights! Thanks again, I knew where I should turn. Have a sweet night everyone!
