I have done it on fondant but I have a customer who wants it on BC is it possible how would you attach the draping.
I just lay the drape on teh cake and use extra large toothpicks to hold them in place till the set up...I usually make my roses on toothpicks so those also help to hold the drapes in place. It's a good idea to chill your cakes...The buttercream will get firm and you won't mess it up as much when you place the drapes on the cake. I have a few cakes in my photos with drapes and buttercream.
I usually make the drapes out of fondant with tylose mixed in.
I attached it with blobs of buttercream at the top and bottom. I gently pressed the fondant drapes into the buttercream and it did stay. This was done at the hall and the cake was not moved.
I rolled the fondant at home and cut it into rectangles about four or five inches wide and as long as it was necessary to fit the tirs. I used a pizza cutter for the cutting. I dusted it on both sides with cornstarch and pleated it at home. I put the pleated fondant on a tray and brought it to the hall with me. I made MORE than I needed (thankfully) as some of the pleats stuck together when I tried to fan them out.
