I'm sure that I'm not the first person to think of this but figured that I'd still share. I'm working on a Marine Corps retirement cake this week. That's a lot of reds and blues! I was dreading all that coloring gel when I came up with the idea to use liquid food coloring in place of water when I melted the marshmallows. It gave me a nice base color to start with and I am really pleased with the results.

I have only ever made mmf once but the next time I will have to try your method sounds much easier.

I actually do something similar. I still use water (maybe a little less) and then just mix it in once the marsmallows have melted adding color until I get the exact shade I am looking for!

I haven't had a problem with this yet as far as consistency or anything like that.

So I can use Food Coloring instead of Color Paste.I have only tried it once by using Color Paste and I had trouble when i rolled it out on the cornstarch.

Thanks

I did the same as Amber, just put the color in right after the melting, i only have pastes or gel colors, i just the gel and it went really well.

Probably you could also use color liquids, Stacy! But when you put in the pastes when they are melted, just stir a bit and (hopefully icon_wink.gif ) it dissolves completly. Goodluck! thumbs_up.gif

I found this out for myself the other day. I put about 1/2 tablespoon of liquid dye in the gelatine mixture for my sugarpaste. It makes coloring paste so much easier and cheaper.
