My sister gets pissed off at me if I try to give her a discount. She's like, "What about your time!!??!! It's not worth it for $25!!! You need to make some profit!"

So, she has a huge cake order for this June and she told me I better charge normal price...no 'family discounts'. And that she still 'owes' me for the flower cupcakes that I gave her for her Bible study.

Other than that, a lot of other people expect them for free...like I have all the time in the world. If I FEEL like baking for no reason, then fine. But I go to school full-time and work. I am probably overreacting about it, but it annoys me when they think it costs only a couple of dollars to make and not a lot of time to construct.

This girl I know wanted a cake for this Wednesday for her 18th birthday. She said she'd give me $45 for it - I never even asked for that much, but she knew that no one else would be able to do what she wanted. Her dad is a retired baker and he got all mad about the price and insisted that he would bake the cake, and that the price was outrageous. What he chose to ignore was the fact that HIS DAUGHTER put that price out there!

I only charge my family cost for cake. Sometimes the cake is the gift, too. But that is close family, not my MIL's SIL's baby's daddy's grandma's uncle! icon_lol.gif And I have had pain in the a#* customer's who have shorted me, too (not my customers anymore! icon_mad.gif ). AND I also have had under-appreciative family, too, though. We were planning my niece's Quinceanera last year and discussing how much everyone was paying for sponsorship of the thing. I said, "Well, I'm already all paid up." I made the cakeS for free (not cost). She said, "Tia Lynda, you aren't paying anything. You aren't buying the cake." I couldn't help it; I said, "What am I pulling eggs, butter, flour, fountains, and cake boards out of my hiney for free!?" Her mom quickly scolded her after I made my comment... Sheesh, I tell you people do not think! Money for Ingredients, your time, your talent! Uggghhhh! tapedshut.gif

The Magical cake I produced "free from my hiney". (all the decorations for that table and on the cake were from MY hiney, as well! icon_lol.gif )

LOL - Lynda-bob that was too funny. And I have to say that you have one very talented hiney! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

I don't mind doing cakes for close family, such as my parents, siblings and my best and dearest friend and most often than not, it's their present. But in this case it's a distant cousin of my dad's that I don't even know well. I just thought it was funny. She still hasn't called the house since then and I don't expcet her to ever agian...all over a price quote of $44!!! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif
