I just finished my first cake with MMF. It is only my 3rd decorated cake ever. It took over 8 hours for me to do and boy did I learn a lot of lessons! icon_biggrin.gif

It is a 2 layer 9" chocolate cake, torted to 4 layers. It is filled with oreo mousse (WOW, yummy) and iced in decorators chocolate buttercream before being wrapped from the bottom up with fondant. All fondant decorations dusted with luster dust. I was trying to get the appearance of the cake literally being wrapped in fabric...

My husband and kids want to eat it... I want to spray it with laquer to make it last forever it took so much darned work! icon_surprised.gif How do you cut into your creations that you spend so much time on????

I love the fabric look! Congrats on a wonderful job! Yes, I spent 12 hours on my last cake and did wait 24 hours before cutting into it. Take lots of photos of it from all angles, with and without flash, different lighting, LOL then let it sit on the counter to admire for a day (yeah fondant!) then you can cut it. Enjoy every bite.

I am ashamed to admit I never practice my cakes first so I can't say I have ever had this problem with my family wanting to eat them! They get them for their birthdays and so the cutting part isn't an issue, after all it's a birthday cake! As for the ones I sell, often people ask when they pick them up 'how should I cut it?' because they're used to slab cakes. Without trying to sound rude I tend to reply 'that's your problem, I just make'em!' mainly as I have no idea how to cut them myself! Morphogirl is right though. It's meant to be enjoyed. Admire it for a day and then dig in!

Your cake is absolutely beautiful. Now, give the knife to your hubby, leave the room, count to sixty and then go back in and collect your piece of the cake!

It looks so good. Sometimes it's hard roll MMF thin enough to get the fabric look. Take a lot of pictures, but then realize that being eaten is its cakey destiny. icon_smile.gif

Beautiful cake!!! I'm sorry to tell you but you have to cut it!! There is no way a sane person would let yummy oreo mouse go to waste (I can eat the stuff with the spoon, who needs cake icon_surprised.gif did I just say that???) I think I have to go lay down now.

btw, I would love to see a side view!
