Im making a tombstone 50th cake this week and need to create stone grey buttercream -- last time I mixed black into buttercream - color didnt turn our right -- any ideas out there!!!!
I've made gray with Americolor black--but only use a little. What did you get last time you mixed black into buttercream? Was it white buttercream to start, or yellow?
I have also used a little bit of black to get grey. You have to make it a little lighter than you really want it because it darkens up a bit as it sits.
Hello Poochy! I found this website for ya! Hope it helps!

heres my tombstone cake, it was my second cake ever. And i hadnt attatched the spider yet. but i used a little black and used black sprinkles in the frosting, i was looking for kind of a cement old, icky look. i think i got it. the sprinkles were pretty good in the frosting too.
Neat cake. The sprinkles are a nice touch.
Thanks everyone -- with all the hints and the color chart I should be able to pull this one off -- stay tuned -- I'll be posting the picture this weekend. ![]()
