Is there a recipe that uses butter that crusts? I always have been using only Crisco shortening, and since the problems with Crisco want to try something new. Any ideas?? Thanks

I use the Wilton recipe which calls for 1/2 cup butter and 1/2 cup shortening, 1 pound powdered sugar, 1 tsp vanilla, and 4-6 Tbsp milk. It crusts well for me.

If you don't like using Crisco why not try using hi-ratio shortening. One I tried it I will never go back to using Crisco again.

Use whatever crusting recipe you already like and just sub out all butter.

The crusting factor has nothing to do with the butter, and everything to do with cornstarch, powdered sugar, and meringue powder (I think, I have never used mp)
