I have a order for a hay grooms cake. A barrel of hay. I have been looking for ideas and am not having any luck. I am trying to figure out how to make it look realistic. Should I use fondant, crushed cookies, and should I purchase a airbrush? So many questions and no answers please help?

1st question: traditional or modern -- ie rectangle or the big round ones (see pics)

for traditional: the wire = thin licorice whips hit w/ silver luster dust.

here's a link to a site that features a cake:

to make barbs...after cake is made and licorice on as wire, use Royal in grey w/ small #2 or #3 tip to bull out little barbs.

tho' who in their right mind would use barbed wire to bale hay?!?! wouldn't work in the baler!!!

for coil of barbed wire...coil licorice and hit w/ Royal and then silver luster dust.

Something like one of these with a Hay bale or two, or a haybale cowboy hat and boots, on top and or a scene with hay bales as the chocolate transfer. I did a smaller more basic version in my pictures, not nearly as good as these though.

I love this one with the leather work, it would be neat with a hay bale, saddle and barbed wire roll on top, even if you just did one or two layers:

This one would be great in Chocolate just need to add barbed wire to it:

Could be made to look like this ornament only without the hanger of course:

Hope this helps, can't wait to see what you do !!!

Thank you everyone for all the wonderful pics and ideas. I think I'll do the coiled wire instead of barbed wire. Thank you.
