How many cups in 1 lb. of shortening? I'm planning to make the Whipped Buttercream recipe (Charlotte's version) and it calls for 1 lb. of shortening.
Thanks!

1 pound is 16 ounces. 1 cup=8oz.
2cups=16oz=1lb.
Hope that helps, happy baking! icon_biggrin.gif

1 cup is 8oz in fluids, not in solids(or this case sugar). One pound of powdered sugar is about 4 cups. It all depends on how much air is sifted into the sugar, hence why a scale is more accurate.

After the KA. my kitchen is my favorite tool. For the longest time just couldn't figure out why my morning coffee was so terrible until I saw the "cups" were only 40 ounces. So there you go. A cup is not always a cup in the true sense of the word.

I weighed a 1 cup stick of Crisco in the foil wrapper and it was 6-5/8 ounces. So without the foil, I'd guess it must be 6-1/2 ounces. For 1 pound you'd need about 2-1/2 cups. Sorry I can't be more exact but unwrapping Crisco is a messy job icon_sad.gif .
