I got a recipe for red velvet cake off CC and it was a disaster. I followed the directions step for step but the directions failed to say at what point to put the eggs into the mixture so I put them in last. The result was the cake never rose at all. It was the same hight when it was done as it was when i put it into the pans. Do you think this was because I put the eggs in last or did something else cause this? i dont want this to ever happen again so any suggestions from you pros would be appreciated.

Good Question...

I made my first scratch cake this weekend, my recipe said to beat the eggs seperately and add them a little at a time right before the dry ingredients.

It did state that if the batter started to curd or seperate to add a bit of the flour mixture... so I added a bit of the egg mixture and a bit of the flour mixture until all was incorporated. It baked up nicely...

Hope this helps...

PS... the cake mix was a bit dry after mixing all the ingredients were mixed together before baking so I added a cup of sour cream... it turned out wonderful!

Hmmm, without seeing the recipe it's hard to say, but in cake making eggs are usually added after the butter and sugar are creamed. Since baking is a science, adding the eggs at the end may well have thrown off the whole shebang.
