I am doing a mother's day cookie craft with 4 and 5 yr olds. I wanted to use lollipop sticks instead of the wooded skewers as I didn't think they'd be safe! When I tried to insert them before baking, they just tore the cookie dough. I used BC sugar cookie mix
Hey, it's for kids!
Was my dough not thick enough or too soft? Can you actually use lollipop sticks?
Thanks for the advice in advance,

I use lollipop sticks. I twist my sticks while putting them in while pushing down on the cookie with my other hand if any pieces pop up.
Cute idea for the kids! Sounds like a lot of fun. ![]()
I always use the lollipop sticks, but I insert them into the cookies as soon as they come out of the oven. The dough should be about 1/4 in thick before baking and it works great for me. I've never tried to insert them before baking. Just be careful as the cookies are hot and try to insert the sticks as straight as possible so they don't crack the cookies. Once they cool, they are good to go!
I use the same technique as MichelleM- never had a problem with breakage, and you dont have to worry about having a kid stab themselves in the roof of the mouth with a wooden skewer when they eat them off the sticks! Another nice thing about the lollipop sticks is that they hold weight very well to avoid tipping once you assemble your bouquet, AND they can be trimmed to any length really easily.
