I am brand new to cake decorating and I found this site two days ago. I have been obsessively reading every posting and am anxious to bake and bake and bake. My problem is...there is no one in my home who will eat my practice cakes. Neither my husband nor my teen-age son will eat sugar (both are serious weight lifters), and the neighbors are starting to look the other way when I approach. icon_rolleyes.gif I take as many to work as I can, but that gets old too. At any rate, I can't thank you all enough for the wonderful advice...please keep it coming!

Have you thought of maybe taking your desserts to a local firestation or police station? I'm sure they would really appreciate it.

Welcome! My family doesn't get sick of the cakes...but I do, so my favorite place to take cakes is work. I work in a hospital and they have started to complain when I don't bring in a cake. icon_smile.gif

If you have a hospital nearby, that's my advice.

My husband's friends are also a favorite of mine.

Good luck!!

I donate them to my husbands work and the teens at church or the childrens department. We have some big guys at church 6'6" guys who are young enough to EAT A WHOLE CAKE. Fire department. Elementry schools. Any Homeless shelters of food type kitchen might appreciate them.
Any one else have an Idea?

A local communily center or retirement community are also popular places. Plus if you plan on eventually doing cakes for money, try to find places that you can donate cakes that has mothers ect, church events and so on so they can see your talent. Good Luck.

alot of people have said take them to work, give them to hubby to take to work, send w/parents to work, schools, send to local hospitals, business around your community. i also had thought that giving them away to local resturants might help you get there business, same with local business for parties, etc, churches, shelters--i live in a very small town so i dont have any shelters but i know this is somewhere i would take cakes, also library. just think of people you know places you go......hope this help

I volunteered to do hospitality one Sunday a month at my church. Everyone knows now that 'second Sunday' is Cake Sunday! It lets me practice on large tiered cakes that I otherwise wouldn't be able to make. Those people would eat rocks, and I've never yet managed to bring "too much" cake for them!

I send some of mine into the nursing home that my mother works at as they appreciate the special treat there.
