SHORT VERSION:
1. Re: Making a sport ball - what recipe/how many mixes...baking time
2. Re: Wondermold: durable cake? baking time? cracking?

DETAIL
I am trying to make a round ball for the softball team. My cake is taking forever to bake. How long does it usually take in the sportsball pan? I can't find a time on the directions. The mix box said 35 minutes, and I figured it'd be longer on a deeper pan, but I'm almost an hour now. It's also got huge cracks across the top, my cakes have never done this.

Second, I used the durable recipe and it didn't make enough batter. So that became cake balls. thumbs_up.gif My second time I used a different recipe (PB cake on the butter yellow mix) and it came out a little higher, but not to the top to level... How many mixes do you usually use for this pan?

Third..I was hoping to use the durable cake for an upcoming order in the wondermold pan. Anyone have experience with this pan and cooking times? I need a dense cake for structure purposes.

Sorry its SO long! Any help would be great. I'm making my first 3D cakes! I liked stacked flat ones better! icon_cry.gif

I posted a message on this forum in April about the wondermold. You might want to look it up for clarification. I believe I cooked mine on 325' for 45-50 minutes. What really helped was covering the top with tinfoil so it didn't get overcooked.

I think it took close to an hour but the second time around I put a flower nail in the center to hurry it up.

Seemed to take less time with the foil, and it definitely didn't crack. It stuck because I forgot to oil it, but it's getting cut off anyway! But the cracks were deep and wide. I had to make an additional round cake to make it more ball-y. Thanks so much!

Now, I'll have to do the wondermold next week! That cake scares me. Thank goodness it has a core, though.

Ball went GREAT, everyone loved it. Some didn't care much for the choc cake so I will have to use something different next time, but the PB with Reese's filling cake rocked! I got two more orders out of it!
