Just was wondering, how do you all measure your batter? Do you always use a measuring cup? Or just divide them equally between the pans, filling each up half way? (for example, if making a 2 layer 10" cake)

I have a scale ready, measure the amount suitable for the pan with the measuring cup, and then measure the same weight for the same size pan, just to keep the cakes the same size. I am very new to this, so the answers you get will be of interest to me!

That is a good idea to use a scale. I have one on my Christmas list. I've heard that scales are very useful when making icing as well (so you use the exact amount of powdered sugar each time---4 cups may not always equal one pound.)

Some pans that I use a lot I don't measure (e.g., I know that 1 Duncan Hines mix is just right for an 8x3 or a 9x2 round). Otherwise, I use a measuring cup, but I like the scale idea. I do use my scale for measuring powdered sugar from the canister. It's pretty handy.

The scale is a real time saver for measuring and great for measuring your filled pans with the batter.
