Please Help Me Make My "dish" At Least Look Better

I carved my first cake and I didn't do a very good job. Then I iced it and did a good job. I froze it and then put on my fondant well I think it was too big a job for my skills. I don't hate the cake and I am not crying yet because I am pretty happy with how rice like the top looks...........
BUT- What can I put around the dish to hide the flaws. I only have enough fondant left to make mangoes and make a small border at the bottom.
THANKS!! Oh my pic is in my photos if I can't get it here!
I am going to go resize it....
How about putting a real wooden spoon there, to "serve" the rice with? Maybe a little fondant dish with fondant pats of butter on it? Or like the other person said, you can put a pattern on the bowl. I had to do that once when I made an ice cream sundae cake and the bowl cracked.

Maybe you could use food colors and a brush and paint a design on the sides? Might be enough to take away from the "flaws" - but it still looks great.
What you have looks interesting! I would make 2 chopsticks out of gumpaste in black sticking out of the back of the bowl or use real ones.
Add some black chinese like writingg to the side of the bowl.
Perhaps a packet of soy sauce on the plate and fondant a few shrimp....

I agree a little more accent, some color contrast would make the cake POP!
Some fabulous ideas here! Sorry I should have clarified I have mangoe slices made from fondant still to add to the cake. I am going to put a few slices on top and some on the tray. I love the chopstick Idea but don't know if they eat this dish with them....ill ask DH.
This dish is supposed to look like coconut sticky rice with mangoes. FYI- it is white cake (extended) with coconut cream and mango BC. The fondant is Coconut fondant made with Toba's recipe. SOOO YUMMY!! Highly recommend trying it!
I think the chopsticks are a GREAT idea! It would definetly redifine that this is a rice dish. Do you have any stamps?? You could take an easy pattern and put a food coloring on the stamp. Or just cut a sponge into a small square and do a diamond pattern around it! I think once you add the mangos and maybe the chopsticks you will like you cake a lot better! I am always hating what I am doing in the middle of it! don't worry! It will look great!!! ![]()
Well I am chalking this one up to a learning experience and saving the recipes for a someday when I do wedding cakes! I ended up not having time or energy to do anything with the bowl.
But the coconut fondant and cream was a big hit. The Mango BC really added to it!
Problems--- I wrapped the sides of the cake and didn't put the fondant over the top..... Maybe some of you know where this is going but........... The fondant started to split and pull down the sides of the cake. I ended up having to cut the cake early and dish it up. Next time I will definitely put the fondant over the top even if it won't show!
I will post the finished pic in my gallery if anyone wants to see. Thanks for all the advice!
Also, for next time- you could try modelling chocolate if you just want to wrap it around the sides. I have better luck with putting fondant over the entire thing and not wrapping, unless it isn't very tall!
Sorry about the problems. Looks neat though!
