Diamond Impressions?

Can anyone tell me how you can get the diamond impression on a side of a cake? I have seen cake on this sight and I would like to do that

they are an impression mat - you can get them from several places, I got mine from www.earlenescakes.com - you just press them into the side of the cake and it leaves the impression!

I've also heard you can use one of those sewing things. It marks the stitches while using a pattern. I'm not sure what it's called.
