Well, we are just getting close with our neighbors, so I am going to bake them a cake today. Just a simple 8 inch square. But they have plenty of kids, so it would be good for them to think of me as their friendly neighborhood decorator when birthdays come, so I'd like to do something impressive.
I'm not that great yet, and I REALLY can't do flowers. Any ideas for something easy, yet impressive that I can do with BC? Maybe something spring-like? I was thinking cornelli lace, but that seems awfully ho-hum to me.

You could do some of those piped animals or clowns. kids always like those. The clowns are gone over in Wilton course 1. I think I have seen toutorials on animals here, but not sure how to find and then attatach them.
If you have not taken any of the Wilton courses, take 1-3. Definitly worth it.

Maybe to tie in their children and the new home, you could do a FBCT of kids,2parents faces and a house in the background. Kind of like they do the return address labels? HTH

I would sugest some bright color flat flowers on the cake, ya know just like the 5 petal plain kind, but spruce it up, use colors that you wouldnt expect to go together. good luck

You are very talented!( I actually LOVE your Mario Party cake!!) What about doing a FBCT? I would do something that would appeal to the kids, like a puppy, kitten, something like that. You want the kids to be so impressed that they beg the parents to have you make their next birthday cake!!

Thanks for the compliment heidisuesmom! I seem to have an easier time when I have a specific theme to work with. If not, my mind goes blank!
Thanks for the ideas everyone! The day is getting late, so I don't know if I'll have time for an FBCT (they take me forever!!) But then again, I do still have to wait for the cake to cool, so maybe I'll find a simple one and get to work!

Well, I decided on a FBCT of butterflies and daisies with cornelli lace on the sides. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a pic, but my neighbors were bowled over. It was almost embarrassing! They even came over after they had some to tell me that it was almost too beautiful to cut and tasted like the finest wedding cake. icon_biggrin.gifthumbs_up.gif
Thank goodness for CC, WASC and Buttercream Dream!!! Thanks again everyone!
