I baked a 12x18 cake for a party tomorrow. This is my first cake of this size.

In the post below most people replied that they used 3 box mixes for this size cake.

I only used 2. The layers did look thin, but I figured once they are filled and iced (tomorrow), they should be okay.

I contemplated using another mix but the problem is that the customer wanted a 1/2 vanilla, 1/2 chocolate cake. So in order for me to add another mix I'd have an extra half box of both flavors. That just seemed like a waste.

Now, I did doctor up the recipes so they are a little bigger. But I'm worried it will be too short and look cheesy. What do I do?

HELP!

hint for future...make the extra box

use batter to make 4" rounds to freeze for smash cakes

or 6" rounds for quick anytime dessert

or cupcakes

or bake then crumble to make cake balls/tuffles/bites/bon-bons (whatever is the official name now)

I have made quite a few cakes this size and always use only two boxes for each one. Granted I make it a two layer cake with filling so it comes out to be a HUGE cake. I use the recipes from the CMD books.
