I've been DYING to try this medium, and I finally got to the craft store and bought some Wilton Gum Paste MIX........ I also got a container of Glucose, because I saw it mentioned on the boards here....... Well, each has different directions..... I see now that I should NOT have gotten the "mix", but used "Gum Tex"..... I also see that the Glucose is nothing but VERY expensive corn syrup..... SIGHHHHH....... Has anyone used the "MIX"..... does it work out okay? It says to use the entire 16 oz. for a batch....... I just wanted to try a LITTLE........ is this going to make ALOT that will go to waste? It also is very expensive, and I don't want to have to throw it away........
I love gumpaste! Tried it for the first time a few weeks ago and now I have bead boxes full of flowers, fruits and cutest little bugs. I tried the premixed bag wanted to see the consistency and know how its supposed to work and feel. From everything I've read you don't have to worry about gumpaste going bad. A small amount goes a very long way so be sure to keep it in an airtight container. I wrap mine in "press & seal" then put it in a ziploc. If it starts to dry out I put a tiny bit of crisco on my fingers and knead it into the gumpaste. I thought the same thing about it being expensive but then when I see how many things you can get from a bag it seems worth it.
I don't make the entire can when I make it........I just take out a cup or so depending on what I'm making and add water a baby spoon spoonfull at a time until it becomes a dough.......it doesn't have to be an exact science...just get enough water to bring it together.
