I am trying to make a bed cake for my daughter's birthday on Sunday. I need to make a headboard and I am not sure how to do it? Do I use gumpaste, fondant, royal icing or color flow. Has anyone made one of these before? Do you know have any helpful hints on constructing a bed cake with a headboard and footboard. I need all the help I can get! Thanks.

I've never made a cake like that but I did see one that a baker made for a little girl and they used the plastic scrolls wiltons puts out if you look at my photos its the red and white shower cake the scrolls were just lined up next to each other side by side at the head of the bed it was really cute I hope this helps.

I made a Sleeping Beauty cake with a head & foot board.. I made them out of gumpaste. I made a pattern, rolled the gumpaste and then cut the gumpaste using the pattern. I had to let it set up for a couple days before it was completely dry. You may have a time issue if this is for Sunday. Everything needs time to dry..

Here's a picture of the cake with the headboard...

I made the headboard for mine out of gumpaste, but it took about 6 days to dry, we live in a humid area. Posts were done separately and glued together at the end. Photo is in my album
