I did my first edible image everything was fine I had it flat and it looked ok. Then after it sat for awhile there are little spots on it, mine are pink I don't know if the color has anything to do with it. I use a 1butter to 3 shortening icing, if that has anything to do with it.Can someone help me. icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_eek.gificon_eek.gif

Are the spots immediately adjacent to dark areas? I've experienced some magenta bleeding lately when my base icing is too soft. It mostly comes out of black and dark brown.

Where there any droplets of water or liquid on the surface of the cake when you applied the image like from spritzing the cake with water?

the base icing is white and the spots look like a light pink they are on the darkest part of the cake but none of the cake is very dark. i did not use water at all to smooth the cake. It is a picture of kids in a bath bub that is white so it is not dark. The picture is ok other then the spots and they did not come up till the cake sat over night..

It could have been some condensation or moisture that built up on the surface of the edible image after sitting overnight. Was the cake stored air-tight like in a cake dome or covered tightly with plastic wrap? Sometimes storing the cake this way, especially in warm weather, can cause a build-up of condensation that can cause the colors in the image to run or make the image really shiny. Even if the image was light, black ink is used in shaded areas and the black may have ran/separated. Or it could have been that the frosting underneath was too thin/too much liquid in it like Crimsicle said.
