Decorating By jmcakes Updated 26 May 2006 , 5:30pm by Bettycrockermommy
I would like to do a carebea cake that I seen in the gallary. I can't ember who made it but it has the rainbow and the childs name on the rainbow. I was also wondering how do I get the rainbow together if it is made out of fondant and how long in advanced should I do it? PLEASE IF ANYBODY KNOWS, HELP ME OUT. THANKS Melissa
Sorry, it doesnt have the name on it. But about big would I make the rainbow, I am going to use a 6inch pan. Hurry and help please, only a few days left.

I'll have a go.
Make the rainbow out of colored gumpaste or even a colorflow would work. In fact, I might say color flow would be better because you could outline the colors touching each other, so they would be more like all one piece when finished. Gumpaste (or fondant) you could roll out and brush with water to attach the colors to each other, or you could make the rainbow in white and then paint the stripes on with food coloring...so there are a couple of options.
I'd make the rainbow as early as possible so it can really set up and be firm by the time you need it. If you're putting it on a 6" top of a cake, just make sure it doesn't span too far. You could make it with popsickle sticks in each side that could be stuck into the cake once it dries. Set them in the gumpaste or color flow so they're "part" of the rainbow.
Oh--you could also look for something from Mattel products in the toy department that could be used without making anything...could be something out there already made that would work...? (I'm all for cheating, sometimes, lol)
That's all I have...hope it helps. Good luck--it's a cute cake!
Is this the cake you are talking about?

She says in her comments that she "glued" the rainbow together with water and then reinforced the back of the rainbow with toothpicks attached with royal icing.
