I am going to try to attach a picture of the cake a guy has requested for a July wedding....mind you this is to be the grooms cake..not the wedding cake. I consider myself fairly experienced and have been doing this in my own shop for a couple of years now. I think that I can very closely replicate this cake.. that he sent me a photo of...(if I cant attach here Ill add to my gallery...remember the photo is NOT my creation...just a reference photo and I am in no way taking credit for it.

On to my original question..to some of you fellow more experienced and business owning decorators/bakers. How much would you charge for this cake? Made as he wants with 12 in. as the base and appropriate sizes going upward. I know we usually have standard costs for fondant etc. But in this case their is much carving / coloring / molding of details etc....what would you charge? FYI ....all baking is scratch and I use only satin ice.

I don't think $500 is a lot to ask for considering the amount of time you put into this cake, great job!

I don't have my own shop yet but my price for this cake would be around $6-$8 per serving. Good luck. thumbs_up.gif

Thanks! I didn't mean to sound snobbish by saying shop owners...more likely shoulda phrased it "people who make cakes and sell them" as I know a lot of people just do them for fun etc...and I was gearing the Q at people who are good at pricing...oddly enough this guy isnt interested in how many it will serve...lol..as it is the grooms cake but still wants the big cake for effect...wanting the 12 in. base.

...so it looks like a 12, 10 and an 8 or 6 on top? So, maybe like 118 it will serve? At 5 dollars a serving that'd be 590 dollars...so yeah, 500 is reasonable...there's alot of work involved in the fondant and colors. thumbs_up.gif

wow such a big cake for a grooms cake. If I had to do all that fondant work and detailed work, and if I had my own shop I would charge about 700!! Good luck and post a pic!

I'd charge £500 for this ($1000) - it's a lot of work even to mix all the fondant colours let along the shaping etc,
