Has anyone used this? I bought it a while back and I'm making my nephew's birthday cake for this weekend, but the last time I used a character pan (elmo), I ended up with a hump in the middle of the cake. I've read about putting something heavy on top of wax paper and putting that on top of the cake. If I get a hump on this cake, should I take it out of the pan first or put the wax paper on it while it's in the pan?

I'm not sure that I understand what you mean by this.

I use character pans all the time, and I always have to level the cake, just like a round or a sheet cake. I just leave it in the pan and level it with my large wilton leveler. I've never had a problem doing it this way.

Perhaps when you fill the pan with the batter you should gently shake to make sure the batter is more even in the pan.

honestly when this happens to me i just let it be. I usually put a little border around the cake. the fills in the gaps between the hump and the board. the humps are not that big (at least for me). I've also notice that when i put my cakes to cool in a cookie rack it flattens a bit.

I made a Scooby cake last night, and tried just pressing down on the cake while it was still warm. I thought that also seemed to help eliminate the dome. and no scraps of cake left over!!
