Can someone please tell me if there is an easy on how to make a cake that is shaped/made like a shoe without using fondant. (I'm still pretty new to baking). I also need to know if someone can tell me how to make baby booties and maybe a dress or sweater. THANKS

I made baby booties but with BC not from fondant.
You can get it from Wilton site.
http://www.wilton.com/decorating/basic/babybooties.cfm

I post a forum, subject "Baby out of fondant" it was great link there. Check it.

Thanks
Nitu

Hi,
Since you want to make these NOT out of Fondant,
I don't think you have a choice besides piping, and honestly I don't think you will get a very realistic looking ones. I have made baby shoes, but it was Fondant, so they looked exactly like real shoes.

Wilton Books I'm sure have instructions on how to pipe these.
Why don't want to use Fondant ? You must have heard how horrible Fondant taste. I only use fondant w/ my cake decorations because I always get the results I want. You are not limited as to what you can do with Fondant when it comes to cake decorating. Specifically like the ones you want to make. I like realistic looking things, like flowers, shoes, scultured babies, birds etc... I make my own Marshmallow Fondant and they taste great. Good luck.. icon_smile.gif

Here's a link to some booties that Martha Stewart did out of cake using buttercream...there is also some other baby shower ideas...blocks etc. on there. You don't need fondant to make a beautiful cake. Try checking out the galleries on here for shoes & baby stuff...there are some really nice cakes to get ideas from thumbs_up.gif

*edited to add more links:

I'm not sure what kind of shoe you were talking about but here's a link to a pair of tennis shoes made from buttercream & they look pretty realistic to me

I think that for the dress you could just use an 11x15 or a 12x18 sheet cake and cut the shape of the dress out of it. I haven't made anything like it, but there are some wonderful pics in the gallery. I'll look for you.

Thank you guys so very much!!!!! I'm just a little scared and nervous about doing these cakes because I've never done these kinds b-4, but there's no limit. I will have to just try and learn from trial and error.

Also, PRETTYCAKES.....you're right, I've heard so many things about fondant and it just tastes NASTY to everybody. I have no clue what I'm doing and worry about how it may come out......I will say me a quick PRAYER 1st!!!!!

Being that this is not my cake, I have no idea how they constructed it.
It doesn't look like an oval pan to me (they are very narrow), but personally if I were to construct this cake I would go with an 8" stacked cake (maybe three layers high) and then use another two-layer (or high one layer) 8" for the front and cut out a small curved notch at one end to fit...leaving about 3/4 of the cake extending outward for front of bootie.
Sorry I can't be more help than this. Good luck thumbs_up.gif

p.s. test it out by using your empty pans or trace the pans on paper and use the cutouts for a guide...

Thanks a lot DiscoLady, but I am not that creative at all. I caught HELL trying to make the baby dress last night. I baked the cake in a 11X13 pan and cut it out. Then I told myself.....now you've done good but don't over-do it. So I stopped at that point and I will continue the icing and fondant (if I do fondant) tonight. I will take pics of my step by step method and post them for future newbies, cause I know what it's like to need someone to hold your hand along the way. Thanks CC friends!!!! thumbs_up.gif
