Ok so I mixed the gumpaste and fondant to make 3D bears, Let the gumpaste sit 24 hours, and it is so soft, even after I mixed them together. icon_sad.gif
Is there a way to stiffen it up a bit? It is also getting kind of wrinkly.
I have to get these done today and tomorrow, and it is not going well. Please help if you can. icon_smile.gif

I just add more powdered sugar.

It is really hard to get it too dry, I have mixed the same ball of mmf/gumpaste over and over and rolled it out over and over , it would take a lot to get too much powdered sugar in it. A tiny bit of crisco at the last will make the colors bolder.

Hope this helps, I have made bows and flowers but not bears.

would I be better off not mixing the gumpaste and fondant? Just use one or the other? Which is best and will it crack or shrink?

a fat wad of 100% gumpaste left to dry will be 100% dry in 24-48 hours. I have made very large rose bases that were rock hard the next day. they certainly would be hard enough to use or work with. I think the 3D bears will be ready tomorrow if you do then tonight with 100% gumpaste - just don't use the ready made kind. use dry that you mix yourself or make your own.

I always mix Gum-Tex with my fondant and it dries very hard in about 24 hours.

You ladies are so much help. I really do appreciate your help and patience. I made the bears (although I am not too thrilled with their appearance). I used the combo of gumpast (I used the dry powder kind) and fondant. The arms and legs just don't want to stick to the body, and I don't think bears without arms and legs would be appropraite for a baby shower cake icon_razz.gif
Is the gumpaste usually pretty sticky to work with? Shoule I add powder sugar to it to stiffin it up? Because I am willing to start over and make the bears out of gumpaste if they would stick together better (and look better).
Sorry sooo long!
Teri

Thanks so much!

You can add just gumtex to the mixture. I use fondant for all my flowers, & just mix in alot of the gumtex.

You might want to stick toothpicks in the pieces to help hold them together. If your bears still need some help, I would also glue them together with some royal icing and hold them in place until that dries or prop it on something to hold it up. The toothpicks should help a lot, though.
