I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long food coloring lasts. My mom used to be into cake decorating several years ago and she gave me some of her colors. Don't know if I should use them.

I don't know how long it lasts, but I wouldn't take the chance.
Maybe someone else has the answer

I have another food color related question.
My interest is in children birthday cakes, I only make those.
Being all new to this I would like to know what color you consider to be absolutely necessary. I only buy black, white and the primary colors....further I mix and combine my way to the other colors.
Is this the way to go about...
Do one buy every single color available?
