How do I make my FBCT thinner? They always seem be to thick. Should I put them on before I ice the cake? I'm scared if I make them to thin the they 'll really easy. Attached is the photo I'm speaking of.

Something I've started doing is, on small cakes, making the entire top of the cake the fbct. Right now I'm doing an 8" cake, so my fbct is about 7 3/4" circle.

I've only made one, but I made it pretty thin and didn't do a background and it turned out pretty well. I had to do a few touch ups when I got it on the cake. I think as long as your lines and spaces all connect then you shouldn't really have a problem. After mine had crusted but before I froze it, I smoothed the back with a fondant smoother so that everything was "connected". It's the dog in my photos.

The first one I made was really thick. Now I just don't put as much "backing" on. I usually just fill in the low spots when I'm done doing the design, then smooth it out. So far only one has broken, but it was really my fault when I turned it over. Good luck, I love FBCT's!
