Latest Cake Challenge....steaming Cakes?

What is the purpose of steaming a fondant cake when you are all finished. I noticed Buddy (I think that was his name) was doing that? Had never seen that done before.

I've heard some say it is to seal the colors in and also it kinda makes the fondant sticky so they can add decorations (easier to attach).
