I'm looking for some ideas for a grad cake for June 24th. The cake needs to be wedding cake size, as the customer wants to have enough cake for everyone that comes to the party. Last year for her sons party they had @300 people show up. The school colors are blue and gold and she wants it graduation theme and also wants me to somehow tie figure skating into it. The grad has been a skater since she was two and recently just turned pro. Please help! Any ideas? I'm soo nervous, this will be my first "big" cake! Thanks!
You could find some sort of figure skater figurine/topper (or have her find one?) and then stack some tiers, and decorate each tier by adding a grad cap, a diploma, some streamers...etc... you could do them in plastic or fondant.
Or you could do the opposite and top the cake with a cake grad cap (use wonder mold and then either gum paste mortarboard or fondant covered cardboard)) and add some figure skating figurines along the bases of the tiers...
Good luck!
Hi Shelbell..
I so hope you can follow what Im thinking here and I am going to show auntiecakes wedding cake for an example of kinda what Im thinking.... Her cake is FABULOUS!! Ok take her cake style like she has the hearts around the bottom edges and on those cakes maybe do different silouttes of figure skaters on the tops of them then on edges put graduation hats around them or something.. while alternating colors of the school... Like Blue trim on one the next gold trim. or innertwine them kinda like confetti all over the edges... then on the stacking cakes on the edges write class on top layer then .. Of on middle layer... then 2006 on lower layer... Or you could write whatever...If it for a girl then just do the roses in the school colors or white and highlight in school colors... I think this would fit what you neeed and all tie together very nicely... Using the hearts for the bottom cakes would basically state she loves ice skating or you could sub them for maybe oval cakes...
Hope you could follow along with what I am meaning...
