I'm confused about the lily nail. I was reading on Wilton website how to make a petunia out of royal icing. It said to line the lily nail with foil. If I do that, how do I get the flower out?

I only have 1 nail, does that mean I have to make one flower at a time and wait for it to dry? Or can I somehow take the foil out without ruining the shape of the flower so I can make the next one...

foil will hold shape of nail...and

if you don't warp the foil over the edge (DON'T) it will slide out very easily with the flower inside.

then just set aside to dry.

an empty egg carton will hold them while they dry.

or ... I found that the wires on my oven racks were just the right distance apart that I could mass manufacture the flowers and plop them into the gaps and let them dry there

and...one time, when I needed them dry NOW! -- pushed the rack in, turned the oven to "WARM" and they were dry in just 20 minutes.

once dry, the foil will peal off fairly easily.

HTH

I use the Reynolds non-stick foil. The flowers release so easily! In addition to egg cartons (and oven racks!), muffin tins work well to hold the flowers while they dry.

The thinnest (usually cheapo) foil works the best! Just do like Doug says, do not wrap the foil under the lip of the flower nail, just fold it so it sets on the edge of it.

Thanks everyone thumbs_up.gif

Obviously, first time using lily nail! I'm aiming for some hibiscus-looking flowers, we'll see icon_wink.gif
