i am just wondering why the cake came out smelling like eggs? i whipped the egg yolks with the sugar for 7mins then added the milk and then the cake flour, a little at a time. then the finall step was folding in the egg whites in two batches, so why the smell?

I assume it is an angel food or chiffon cake and to me they smell like eggs.

I've never experienced that, but I did find a solution:

Prevent egg smell in cakes- To get rid of the smell of eggs in the cakes, add one tablespoon honey to the cake batter while beating it.
