I made a cake for my son's 5th grade graduation last week... We ate some of it the day that I made it and it was really good, but the next day it seemed to have taken on a weird taste... kinda like robitussin cough syrup... NOT GOOD!!! This is the first cake that has ever done this.. I used a different cake recipe and the same icing recipe but after it set over night it was just gross!!!! What in the world went wrong!!!

Did you use a flavored syrup or something? Maybe after the sugars absorbed all the syrup it just got to be too much?? Just taking wild stabs in the dark here. icon_confused.gif

I used a pillsbury mix and used the cake extender recipe too so I would have enough for a small cake as well.. The mix was different and the icing I did use a different brand of flavoring but that's all that was different.. I've never had this happen before.. Guess that's what happens when you change something that was working to begin with...

What flavors of cake and icing did you make? Maybe it was the combination and using a different brand of flavoring. Was it a regular buttercream or IMBC? I have heard people say IMBC doesn't taste good the second day. I have never made it though.
