Ok, I was "volunteered" to make a school bus cake for a surprise birthday of someone that works at the local bus garage. I made a school bus cake before that I donated for the local elementary school's carnival. I baked a 9x13 cake, cut it in half length side and stacked them on top of each other and cut a little piece of the top layer on one end to represent the hood, and frosted and decorated it.
I'm just trying to figure out how to go about making this one. The cake is suppose to be for about 20 some people and I'm not sure if the cake I made before would serve that many (I would rather make extra cake to make sure there is enough to go around). I've thought of a couple of things but haven't decided what would work the best. I though about making a larger cake (9x13x3 or 11x15 or something like that) and just cut the small piece from the front without cutting the cake in half, and leaving the cake full. Or I could do a regular cake and frost it to look like the road and do a smaller school bus cake (perhaps made from loaf cakes) on top. Just trying to think what would look the best. Any suggestions?
I have made a school bus using the long loaf pan. I am not sure how many servings you could get though. I like your idea of icing a cake to look like a road and putting the bus on it. Whatever you decide, I know it will be a big hit.
