Hey guys -

I'm doing a cake that's going to look like a black motorcycle jacket. I've been reading some great ideas for how to get that leather look, but someone suggested using luster dust to bring out the details in the fondant. Since my cake will be black - does anyone know if there is such a thing as black luster dust? Can I color SuperPearl with black paste color or something? I have SuperPearl, but it may turn white on the black - I'm not sure - I've never tried it. Does any of you fabulous cake decorators have any ideas? Thanks so much!

I dust with food safe pastel chalk. Am thinking some black mixed in with a touch of pearlized luster dust would give it a nice sheen. bonus if you can figure out a way to give it a shot of steam to really set it and make it glow.

as for the leather look I just got finished with a black guitar cake yesterday and definitely wasn't going for the leather look but I got it anyhow LOL Had to rip off the fondant and start over........I rolled the fondant as usual and then rolled it up on a rolling pin and while I was unrolling it on the cake I guess I stretched it a little and it got these little cracks and creases and looked exactlly like a black leather jacket LOL I actually wrote down how I did it for future reference if I ever need a black leather jacket for anything!!!

Wow - that's amazing! Some of the best ideas come when we least expect them! I'll try that tonight - just stretching it a bit to get those cracks may be all I need to do! Thanks!
