Its long
Watch-I stray-go from subject to subject--okay here is goes-Ive tried hard to read different forums to get answers. I got someTHANK YOU SO MUCH!

As Ive said before-I havent been back decorating for long-even before just for the kids.

Im going to be doing a 2 tiered (stacked) cake for a bridal shower this weekend & Im also GIVING the shower never have enough to do -need more icon_razz.gif this is what brought me back to decoratingwe called about a price on a cake & I knew it would be higher than the rest would pay & it was icon_mad.gif (dont get me wrong it was fair I know that we just have a VERY small budget)so everyone was like-go to Sams Club or WalmartWHAT- ARE THEY CRAZY icon_eek.gif so I said I would do the cake myselfthey have a standard mind-boring-but I want to WOW them. I cant do a lot (no flower-cant make them yet) so be need a wow factor

It will be Duncan Hines yellow cake mixes for both most likely bc frosting- so for fillings I was thinking whipped choc ganache (is that ganache after its cooled??? icon_confused.gif ) for one cake and strawberry filling for the other (both recipes are on CCC) should I try a different cake instead of yellow??

fresh flower/flowers on top/sides??

I would love input & ideas, please!!!

Also what is the shelf life of wiltons candy flavoring (cherry) & can you use it in cakes/frostings

Oh yeah I did a trial run on the cake ( may not do the same) for my nieces birthday-made mistakes but oh well she loved it (shes 9 ha ha) Ill try to post it in my photos.

thank you so very much & this is a greatest web site... icon_wink.gif

A bridal shower?

Yeah. Been there, girl.

I'd go with a butter-white mix for the cake, with either some almond in the mix, or creme boquet thrown in.

Then, the fillings you've mentioned sound great.

Wilton's candy drops have a shelf life like twinkies. As long as they don't get too hot/too cold.

Hope this helps!

I recently did a chocolate cake with the whipped cream /cream cheese frosting recipe here (Titled Whipped Cream Frosting) and stawberries. I was limited on time, so it worked great, I just made one big batch of frosting, used the same frosting for the filling but sprinkled fresh chopped strawberries on top of it before I placed the second layer on top. I did not even color the frosting - just piped with the same frosting - white on white, then placed a few strawberries on top at the last minute - beatiful and tasty and people raved, thought it very 'professional'! (sorry no picture). I sure it would be yummy with a yellow cake also.

You could even add a light blue and/or a light pink to the a bowl/ piping bag of frossting for a quick piping around the edge.

Dalt,

I made a tea Pot cake for a friend for Mothers day. The picture is in my album. Take a look and let me know if you like it and I can get you basic instructions. It's easy and all you need is a ball pan. Depending on how many guests you are having you could always set the tea Pot ontop of another cake so it will feed everyone.
Good luck!

If you want something simple, but are looking to wow them, make the cake taste ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Then cover your cake in whatever buttercream flavor you want, wrap a ribbon around the bottom of each tier and sprinkle a few fresh flowers around it. Make sure the ribbon and the flowers coordinate with whatever you're doing for the rest of the shower. That should be fairly easy to do since you're also giving the shower. Simple and elegant is always a hit and a 2-tier cake is usually enough to wow someone who wanted a slab from Sam's Club.

If you decide to use the Duncan Hines yellow cake mix, I would suggest adding a box of instant vanilla pudding and and extra egg. I made that cake the other day and the extra vanilla flavor makes the yellow cake sooo good.

thanks i think i have pudding here, i baked a yellow cake today and added butter, vanilla, & almond flavorings to the mix to see how in would be--it's still hot so i'm not sure if it will taste different or not----i did send someone after white cake mixes today so i guess that is what i'll use now--just got to decide on flavors & fillings, frosting will be white bc but i could always flavor each tier differently oh well wish be luck i think i'll bake tomorrow for saturday icon_confused.gificon_confused.gificon_confused.gif
