What's the best way to cut cake boards that aren't available for purchase in the size you'd like? Particularly if you're going to use it in a tiered cake.

The top tier of my cake is going to be a 4" or 5" square.

What do you do?

I but full sheet cardboards mainly for this purpose. I cut my own with an exacto knife. The squares are easy because you can measure it with a ruler. Hexagons and such, I just trace the pan. If you have a carved cake or something, you can put it on the board first, then cut with the knife.

I use 3/16th inch foamcore cut with an electric hot exacto knife by Creative Hot Knife/Walnut Hollow Creative Hot Marks Tool Kit.

Like BlakesCakes, I use 3/16 inch foam core for that size cake but I cut mine with a regular exacto knife. I didn't know they make an electric version... time to go shop...
