I have seen many sculpted people and figures. What is the easiest medium to use. I mean ease of coloring, forming, dry time? I would love to try sculpting animals for childrens cakes and people for wedding cakes like I have seen. There are so many telented people on this website, I know someone can give me a little instruction.
Thanks in advance.

I have used a 50/50 gumpaste and fondant mix. It dries quicker and harder than just fondant.

Good luck with your sculpting!

Depends on your application... marzipan give you gorgeous translucent skin tones... gumpaste dries quickly, fondant gives you more time to work (but can sag while you're waiting for it to dry) Cold porcelain is similar to gumpaste... polymer clay is a great option if you wnat it be a permanent keepsake...

I just made some with gumpaste and HATED it. I'm not fast enough to use it without it cracking and flaking on me. The next time I sculpt people I will be using fondant. It's my more comfortable medium anyway.

It also depends on what brand fondant you are using (if you use store bought fondant) Some brands are hopeless for modeling people etc...When i use Bakels fondant I use straight fondant but if I use Orchid brand or any of the others available here in Australia I use 50 / 50 fondant and gumpaste.

For the finer details (like fairy skirts in my photos) I use gumpaste.

In summer when it is really hot, I add extra gumpaste to help keep the shapes I have made.
