Does that work? I'm figuring I can sort of just stick them into the buttercream. But they won't melt or anything will they? I've already had one disaster with this cake, I don't need another!

::I made seven cakes and ALL of them came out of the pans without their bottoms:: waste of money.

I have never run into a problem doing this.

I don't know about the gumpaste except when it is dried it is ok.

As for the bottoms not coming out, I line all of my pans with parchment paper on the bottom so I dont' have to worry about this. I also only let my cakes cool for 10-15 mins b/c whatever you grease your pan with create more of a glue instead of release if it is allowed to cool completely.
