I was wanting to find out how everyone attaches ribbon to the bottom of cakes? I figured with a round cake it would be simple, probably just dot with some icing to attach. But what about heart or petal shaped cakes where it seems like it would be more difficult? I plan to do a heart or petal shaped cake in August and want to put ribbon at the bottom and I'm afraid the icing won't hold it in the crevices. Any tips or suggests would be appreciated.
You could get some really pretty straight pins. I've seen some cake decorators use the ones with the pearls on the end (you can get them at places like JoAnns or Michaels) so that way there is an additional something pretty on the cake & it's serving a purpose.
Just a thought ![]()
I've wondered about that though - because of the metal is it food safe? Do you have to do something to the pin before using? There was a discussion about floral wire a while ago, which is NOT food safe, so people were wrapping it in platic wrap or inserting them into small straws. What about the pins?
I have never used any pins or toothpicks. I will put the ribbon on before frosting starts to crust. I have never had any problems with the ribbon not sticking of anything.
I have 2 pictures in my photos that have ribbon on them & I also have used the strands of craft pearls. I really like a cake with those on it. There is one of those in my pictures also. It's the pictures that have the baseball game in the background.
