I have a request for a graduation cake with white,blue and gold stripes. Is there a way to color buttercream a gold color?

How about luster dust?

You can airbrush on the metallic gold color, or you can purchase food coloring that has a metallic flake to it. I wish I could remember what supplier sells it. Im sure someone on here, or at your local cake store could tell you!

There is a 'gold' color, but its basically a yellow...if ya want the shine of a gold, you'll need luster dust.

If you can't airbrush, I did gold letters once by coloring my fondant as close to gold as I could then once my letters were formed in your case once you apply the stripes to your cake brush it with gold luster dust mix it with some lemon extract or vodka and brush away. I did a few coats on my letters worked fine I know with an airbrush they would have been fantastick but I cannot afford one

Thanks for all your help. Is the Luster dust edible? I have used shimmer dust before but haven't tried the luster dust.
